This guide explains the initial setup and configuration of the GeoBuddy plugin for WordPress.
1. Install Required Plugin #
Before configuring GeoBuddy, make sure the GeoDirectory plugin is installed and activated because GeoBuddy works as an extension of GeoDirectory
Steps:
- Go to WordPress Dashboard
- Navigate to Plugins → Add New
- Search for GeoDirectory
- Click Install Now
- Click Activate
2. Install the GeoBuddy Plugin #
- Go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for GeoBuddy
- Click Install Now
- Click Activate
After activation, a GeoBuddy settings panel will appear in your WordPress dashboard.
3. Open GeoBuddy Settings #
- Go to Dashboard → GeoBuddy
- Open the Settings panel
- Configure which features and fields you want to enable.
GeoBuddy allows you to enable or disable individual fields depending on your website needs.
4. Enable Social Media Fields #
GeoBuddy adds additional social media fields to directory listings.
You can enable fields like:
- LinkedIn Profile
- WhatsApp Contact
- TikTok Profile
- YouTube Channel
- Skype Username
These fields help businesses connect their social media profiles directly to their listing pages.
5. Enable Virtual Tour Field #
GeoBuddy also supports 360° virtual tour URLs.
You can add virtual tours from platforms such as:
- Matterport
- Google Virtual Tours
- Any HTTPS virtual tour link
This feature is useful for real estate, hotels, tourism, and business directories
6. Add Fields to GeoDirectory Listings #
After enabling the fields:
- Go to GeoDirectory → Custom Fields Manager
- Select the listing post type
- Add the GeoBuddy fields to the listing form.
These fields will now appear when users add or edit a listing on your directory website.
7. Test the Configuration #
Finally:
- Create or edit a listing.
- Fill in the social media links or virtual tour URL.
- View the listing on the frontend.
The social links and virtual tour will appear with proper icons and formatting.
