After installing and activating GeoBuddy, complete this initial configuration before using the plugin. These settings control how GeoBuddy behaves across your entire site.
Step 1 — Open GeoBuddy settings #
In your WordPress admin, go to GeoBuddy → Settings. This is the main configuration panel for the plugin.
Step 2 — Enable social media fields #
Under the Custom Fields section in settings, you can enable or disable the social media fields that appear on listings. Toggle on the fields you want listing owners to be able to fill in:
- YouTube profile
- LinkedIn profile
- TikTok profile
Only enable the fields that are relevant to your directory’s audience. Enabling all fields when most listing owners won’t fill them in creates unnecessary empty fields on listing pages.
Step 3 — Enable the virtual tour field #
Also under Custom Fields, you can enable the 360° Virtual Tour URL field. When enabled, listing owners can paste a virtual tour embed URL into their listing.
Enable this if your directory includes businesses where showing the physical space adds value — such as restaurants, hotels, real estate, gyms, or clinics.
Step 4 — Save your settings #
Click Save Changes at the bottom of the GeoBuddy Settings page. Your configuration is now applied site-wide.
Step 5 — Flush permalinks #
After activating GeoBuddy and GeoDirectory for the first time, refresh your permalink structure to avoid 404 errors on listing pages:
- Go to Settings → Permalinks.
- Without changing anything, click Save Changes.
Configuring premium addon settings #
If you have installed any premium addons, each one has its own settings panel under the GeoBuddy menu. Refer to the individual addon documentation for configuration details:
