Keeping GeoBuddy up to date ensures you have the latest features, bug fixes, and security patches. Follow this guide to update safely without breaking your site.
Before every update #
Always back up your site before applying any plugin update. This gives you a restore point if something goes wrong.
- Back up your WordPress database
- Back up your
wp-contentfolder - Alternatively, test the update on a staging site first
Popular backup plugins include UpdraftPlus, All-in-One WP Migration, and Duplicator.

Premium addons are updated manually via ZIP file. Download the latest version from wpgeobuddy.com and install it over the existing addon:

- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Upload the new ZIP file.

Recommended update order #
When multiple updates are available, always update in this order to avoid compatibility issues:
- WordPress core
- GeoDirectory
- GeoBuddy core
- GeoBuddy premium addons
After updating — what to check #
- Visit your directory front end and confirm listings load correctly
- Check that social media fields and virtual tour fields still appear on listings
